WHAT IS GAMAT??

What Is Gamat? Stichopus variegatus, known as Gamat has an elongated body and leathery skin, they are most common found in the Indian Ocean and the South West Pacific. It is so named because of its cucumber-like shape. Nutrients Profile Of Gamat The sea cucumber contains a wide range of nutrients including collagen, marine protein, essential fatty acids, antioxidants including vitamin E and minerals which makes it a very nutritious food with great health benefits. Besides that, it is very rich in mucopolysaccharides, chondroitins and other soft tissues resembling cartilage. Research in Japan revealed the active ingredient in sea cucumber to be a protein- binding receptor. This complex substance has been identified as a bio-stimulant and named gamodulin due to its ability to stimulate and modulate cell growth, including cells involved in the immune system. Unique Features Of Sea Cucumber 1)A sea cucumber, when cut and placed in sea water, is capable of staying alive. 2)The internal organs can be regenerated and life for the sea cucumber will go on normally. 3)This shows that sea cucumber has amazing regeneration power due to its mineral and nutrient content. It's not surprising that sea cucumber contains a cell growth factor which accelerates the regeneration of biological cells, bone, collagen and nerves as well as rejuvenates the skin. What Is Glucosamine? Glucosamine (C6H13NO5) is an amino sugar and a prominent precursor in the biochemical synthesis of glycosylated proteins and lipids. Glucosamine is found as a major component of the exoskeletons of crustaceans and other arthropods, in fungi and many higher organisms and is one of the most abundant monosaccharides. Besides that glucosamine is a compound found naturally in the body, made from glucose and the amino acid glutamine. Health Benefits Glucosamine is the primary building blocks of cartilage and fluid that makes up the joint. The body uses glucosamine to make a substance called “glycosaminoglycans”. This when combined with protein will attract water and act like a shock absorber to help the joints withstand forces. Glucosamine may help to reduce inflammation and stimulate growth of cartilage cells, it also play a role in wound healing. However, production of glucosamine slows with age. Glucosamine supplements is also used in sports drinks and in cosmetics. Glucosamine is commonly used as a treatment for osteoarthritis. Scientific Evidence As of late 1998, studies have been done involving more than 1000 patients. These researches do suggest that glucosamine provides relief for symptoms of osteoarthritis with minimal side effects compared to the NSAID treatment. Furthermore, The Medical Letter on Drugs and Therapies concluded that glucosamine might be effective for supporting normal joint function. On March 2000, the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued a press release recognizing glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate as beneficial in treating osteoarthritis. The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) conclude that these compounds are helpful in treating osteoarthritis. Safety Clinical studies have consistently reported that glucosamine appears safe. Since glucosamine is usually derived from shellfish, those allergic to shellfish may wish to avoid it. However, since glucosamine is derived from the shells of these animals while the allergen is within the flesh of the animals, it is probably safe even for those with shellfish allergy.
